Burrowing the current curves of the Ford fleet, the EcoSport fits into the pack as if it were the smarter and younger brother of the Kuga; mixing state-of-the-art technology with traditional comfort and reliability. The EcoSport is a brilliantly modern car, not only is the technology under the bonnet advanced but inside you’ll find SYNCH with AppLink making this SUV a Smart Utility Vehicle. SYNCH allows you to control your Smartphone through the car so not only can you play music and use apps, but through a simple switch on the ergonomically refined steering wheel, the EcoSport can read your texts out to you. With an air-conditioned glove box acting as a chillier cabinet, parking sensors and keyless entry the EcoSport is an impressively practical car.
The1.0 litre EcoBoost engine offers the power of a 1.6 engine but with 24% better fuel efficiency and 25% lower CO₂ emissions. The automatic Powershift engine might not be the ribbon carrier yet, but it still offers the perfect combination between automatic convenience and manual efficiency. Even if you choose a manual gearbox, a simple gear change indicator on the dash is a simple and effective way of making journeys economical.
With the higher ground clearance and spare wheel fixed to the tailgate, it’s styling is both rugged and practical. Safety wise, 6 airbags occupy the cabin with driver airbag fitted as standard and Ford SYNCH has an emergency assist function. If you have your phone connected to SYNCH and you have a serious accident that deploys the airbags or deactivates the fuel pump, the system can communicate to the emergency services.
The original EcoSport was built the Brazilian market but this model is for the global market and will trek into the UK early next year. It carries the platform borrowed from the Fiesta, yet it looks like an entirely different car thanks to its distinctive and aerodynamic features. Despite a tall and bold stance as an SUV, the EcoSport range is a front wheel drive with the possibility of a four wheel drive version coming in at a later date.
