The SEAT Leon Cupra is one of the fastest cars you can buy from a Hartwell dealership, but you can make it even more powerful if you wish. Hand the car over to German tuning company ABT Sportsline and they’ll give it back with 370hp – substantially more than the standard 300hp output.
In the hatchback, all that power is channelled through the front wheels, but choose the ST estate version and you’ll get four-wheel drive and a DSG automatic gearbox. ABT says this upgrade is perfect for the limited-edition ST Cupra Carbon Edition, so this power hike might be tempting if you own one of the 300 exclusive cars.
To free this dollop of performance, ABT has actually changed very little from the standard Cupra. The changes amount to a new ECU – the car’s brain, essentially – and an ABT-designed exhaust system with twin pipes. That said, if you wanted to spend more money, you could also add ABT Sportsline alloy wheels – available in a number of designs and sizes up to 20 inches, high performance tyres and integrated logo puddle lights.
Don’t have a Cupra? ABT offers these upgrades across most of the engines in the Leon range, including the 1.4 and 1.8-litre petrols, and the 1.6 and 2.0-litre diesels. With the engine upgrades, the 125hp and 150hp versions of the 1.4-litre engine will produce 160hp and 180hp respectively, and the 2.0-litre diesel breaks the 200hp barrier.
