We’re Taking Part In Hats On 4 Ben To Promote World Mental Health Day | Blog | Hartwell

We are taking part in the Hats On 4 Ben Day on Wednesday 10th October. It is an annual fundraising campaign run on World Mental Health Day to raise much-needed money for mental health support.

On the day, we will be wearing our favourite hats, donating to the charity and posting pictures on Hartwells social media – using the hashtag #HatsOn4Ben. Every £2 donated will help provide support for employees in the automotive industry and their families, so please help us to us raise money for this event.

Ben is a charity that provides this help and support to anyone that works, or has worked, in the automotive industry. It offers free and confidential support to people that need it, and a donation of just £2 will ensure the charity can assist as many people as possible.

Mental health issues can affect anyone at any time. There is a wide range of different conditions, including depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) or bipolar disorder, and it is estimated that as many as 1 in 4 people suffer with mental ill health every year. Mental health problems such as stress and anxiety are responsible for 15 million absence days annually. Despite this, many people feel uncomfortable talking about it.

If you or a colleague is going through a hard time, you can speak to Ben for advice, support or just a chat.

Tips For Good Mental Health

Experiencing mental health problems is tough, and it can affect your overall wellbeing and relationships. It is an important topic and there are a few steps you can take to stay in good health.

Talk about your feelings

It can be difficult to talk about mental health issues, but don’t bottle your feelings up. Have a chat with a mate, colleague or family member – a problem shared is a problem halved.

Eat well

Unhealthy foods can create negative feelings. A healthy diet is a surprisingly effective way to improve your mental health. You don’t need to make drastic changes right away – small changes can make a difference.

Stay active

Like a healthy diet, exercise is proven to improve your mindset in the short term. Even going for a short walk can really help, especially if you are finding it hard to leave the house.

A good night’s sleep gets the day off to a good start and helps you recharge. Consider going to bed earlier or using herbal sleeping tablets to help you drift off and stay asleep.

Take time for you

If you are feeling stressed or anxious, try to unwind by doing something you enjoy. Immerse yourself in an activity or hobby and you will be able to get away from it all for a while.
