It hasn’t been long since the all-new Renault Megane RS went on sale, but already an even faster version is on the horizon. The Trophy gets a nice round 300hp and some extra goodies, and that means one thing. Expect a Nurburgring lap record attempt soon – this halo model will look to beat the 7min 43.8sec lap set by the Honda Civic Type R.
The headline increase makes this the most powerful Renault Sport production car ever. To make that amount of power, the exhaust and turbo have been uprated – there’s a new exhaust valve to increase the air flow and create a sportier noise, and the turbo has been tweaked to enhance its responsiveness and efficiency.
The job of controlling that power goes to new Bridgestone Potenza S001 tyres, which are slightly slicker than the standard tyres. You’ll be glad to know that the brakes are beefier too. The front brakes are made from a combination of materials that reduce fade and weight – making this Trophy car much better at pounding around a racetrack.
In front of the brakes are custom 19-inch alloy wheels with red detailing. From next year, you’ll be able to spec lightweight alloys to shave an extra 8kg off the car’s weight.
Alongside the wheels, the new car gets Liquid Yellow paint as standard and Trophy lettering across the front splitter. The changes are relatively minor, but still manage to add extra presence and sportiness.
Inside, there are new Recaro bucket seats – covered in racy Alcantara of course – that are mounted 20mm lower than in the standard car. That helps reduce the centre of gravity, and allows you to feel more connected with the car.
You only have to wait until autumn to order this incredibly powerful, high-spec Renault Megane RS Trophy. Deliveries will start at the end of the year.
