Until recently, you didn’t have many choices if you wanted a fast SUV – and most of those are very expensive. The new Cupra Ateca bridges that gap and, besides premium models, offers the highest performance of any SUV.
Cupra’s first vehicle has come out fighting, with the 300hp 2.0-litre engine that you can also find in the Leon Cupra. Four-wheel-drive is standard, and provides two benefits – the extra traction makes the car faster, and provides increased security and comfort through adverse weather. SEAT’s brilliant seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox will let you make the most of that power. This tasty combination ensures 0-62mph is dealt with in just 5.2 seconds, and the top speed is 153mph.
The 4Drive system is linked to the Ateca’s six driving modes, which are Normal, Sport, Individual, Snow, Off-Road and Cupra. Flick it into the latter and the adaptive exhaust will open, giving you the full noise to complement all that power. In the sportier modes, the adaptive suspension hunkers down for added raciness and handling prowess.
You’ll stand out in the Cupra Ateca thanks to exclusive body styling, 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, four exhaust pipes, black and copper exterior details and the Cupra’s striking new logo. Six metallic paint colours are available – Energy Blue, Velvet Red, Brilliant Silver, Rodium Grey, Magic Black and Nevada White.
Inside, it’s fully specced up with a digital driver’s interface, a 360-degree camera for easy manoeuvring, wireless phone charging, satellite navigation and much more. A few options, such as a panoramic sunroof, Brembo brakes and an advanced driving pack, can be selected if you’d like.
Cupra’s first model will also feature an enticing array of extras, designed to make the car-buying process as easy as possible. The Cupra Care package includes the first three manufacturer services, the vehicle’s first MOT and brake fluid. European roadside assistance and many maintenance jobs, such as wiper blade replacement, air-con servicing and essential repairs, are covered too.
