Hot off the heels of the Ford Ranger Raptor is this Ford Mustang Raptor, and we’d like to sell it in our dealerships. Unfortunately, it’s only a Photoshop render for now – made by X-Tomi Design – but hopefully Ford is taking notes.
A lifted, off-road focused Mustang shouldn’t work, but we think this looks fantastic. It features the Raptor’s black plastic wheel arches and chunky bumpers, which help the pickup to be as commanding off-road as it is on it. The silver skid plates protect the underbody from sharp rocks and rough terrain, and a short overhang allows it to traverse hills and ditches without getting stuck.
It’s safe to say that the raised ride height, off-road suspension and all-terrain tyres would blunt the Mustang’s dynamism and handling, but the flipside is that you’d be able to point it anywhere you like. Perfect if you’re in a rush in the middle of nowhere, and equally perfect if the apocalypse comes sooner than expected.
Plus, the Raptor treatment is unlikely to utilise Ford’s EcoBoost engine. A 450hp 5.0-litre V8 engine and serious off-roading equipment is a tasty combination.
Ford is currently cooking up the Mach 1 Mustang-based SUV, but it won’t look anything like this. It won’t have a V8, though, or any petrol propulsion for that matter. It’ll be fully electric, in line with Ford’s strategy for future models.
What do you think? Do you like it or not?
