Watch A Ford Mustang Bullitt Tackle The Isle Of Man TT Course

When planning a road trip, you might throw a dart at the map and see where it lands. You’ll also need a car that’s capable, fast and, preferably, great looking. This combination hits the bulls eye – a Ford Mustang Bullitt on the Isle of Man sounds like a perfect road trip to us. A good day at the office for journalist Steve Sutcliffe, that’s for sure.

The Isle of Man TT course is a world-renowned street layout, with incredibly fast sections, tarmac imperfections and an almost complete lack of run-off areas if you get it wrong. The mind boggles when you think that powerful motorbikes are hurtling through the tight corners and long straights, with nothing but a thin layer of leather protecting the rider.

When the TT isn’t on, the Isle of Man provides another draw. It’s arguably the only place in the UK where many roads don’t have speed limits, so you can drive as fast as you want (or dare). There are regulations about dangerous or careless driving, but it’s a good place to go if you’re a speed freak.

In the video, Sutcliffe winds the Bullitt Mustang out on the Mountain Road, which is part of the TT course. Plus, get to the top of the mountain and you’re rewarded with a unique treat. From the summit, you’ll be able to see all four corners of the United Kingdom – Scotland, Wales, England and Northern Ireland.

And what a car to do it in, too. The Bullitt Mustang is a 50th anniversary homage to Steve McQueen’s 1968 Mustang in the classic Bullitt film. The 5.0-litre V8 has been tweaked to produce 458hp, and Ford has fitted a custom exhaust package to make the sound turn heads as well as the styling. A manual gearbox is the only option – no complaints there – with rev-matching technology and topped with a classic cue ball gear shifter.

The Bullitt is available in two colours: Shadow Black and the same Highland Green shade that McQueen’s Bullitt worn. There are custom five-spoke black alloys and red brake callipers, and bespoke Bullitt badges finish the look.

You can order the 50th anniversary Ford Mustang Bullitt now, for just over £47,000.
