The Edge is Ford’s flagship, high-tech smart utility vehicle. Designed from the ground up to be visually athletic, the Edge is set to deliver advanced new technologies and will be the third model in Ford’s SUV range alongside the Kuga and EcoSport.
The Ford Edge is sure to be popular with business drivers as well as families.
A bold grille characterises the exterior of the Ford Edge, giving you an assertive road presence which is enhanced by the LED lights and alloy wheels. Inside the cabin you will find a huge selection of interior features that make your journeys comfortable and enjoyable. A leather-trimmed dashboard includes a 10-inch touchscreen display which gives you quick and easy access to the infotainment system. It will not include seven seats like most SUV models, but this means there will be more space in general in the cabin.
For those wanting a more dynamic on-road experience, the Ford Edge Sport model might be more your thing. Fitted with a selection of sporty styling features such as a gloss-black grille, twin exhausts and added panels on the front and rear bumpers it has a more aggressive feel about it.
The Edge will feature Adaptive Steering, making it both easier to manoeuvre and fun to drive, as well as Active Noise Cancellation technology and Front Split view camera. With three microphones in the cabin, Ford’s Active Noise Cancellation generates opposing sound waves that direct through the sound system which will enhance engine sounds as well as refining the cabin ambiance. The Front Split View Camera will make negotiating difficult junctions, or a tight parking space with restricted visibility, easier through the use of a 180-degree camera system installed at the front of the car. The Edge also features specially designed ducts along the sides to create an “air curtain” which improves aerodynamics at speed.
Integral-link, independent rear suspension ensures a dynamic and engaging ride. The solid body structure has been achieved with high-strength steel and that helps deliver exciting and responsive handling. To enhance this special driving experience, the Edge uses specially selected tyres to reduce road noise. Ford will make the Edge available with two version of the 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel engine:
A 180 PS version delivering 400 Nm of torque and projected 149g/km CO2, with 6-speed manual transmission.
A 210 PS version delivering 450 Nm of torque and projected 159g/km CO2 with 6-speed PowerShift automatic and paddle-shift controls.
