Yesterday Ford announced its bold electric vehicle plans between now and 2024. This includes two completely new all-electric crossovers; one of which a new medium-sized crossover model capable of 310 miles on a single charge.

The other a performance-orientated sports crossover. Both sports utilities and crossovers have grown in popularity throughout 2021, and now make up the majority of Ford passenger vehicle sales.

Alongside these two new models is the award-winning and popular Ford Puma, which will be adding an exciting fully-electric model to join its petrol and mild hybrid iterations.

Ford are also planning to release 4 new all-electric vans, including an electric version of the UK’s most popular van in 2021 – the Transit Custom. 

This will be joined by a Torneo Custom in 2023, then the smaller Transit and Torneo Courier models the following year.

With Ford already dominating the commercial vehicle market in the UK, these releases will facilitate a significant charge towards green businesses and carbon neutral achievements across several industries, and cleaner air in UK towns and cities.

Ford have been vocal on their own sustainability aims, with 2035 the target to become carbon neutral across all of its operations.

The new passenger vehicles will be built in their Cologne Electrification Centre, with the plan to build 1.2 million electric vehicles over a 6-year period. Ford announced they are targeting sales of 600,000 EVs a year in Europe by 2026.

Stuart Rowley, the Ford of Europe chairman, stated that Ford are “capitalising on their strengths” and making this move not only to profit from the thriving EV market, but also to do their part in protecting the planet.
