What is OxTrail?

OxTrail is an art trail of adventure and enchantment the likes of which, has never been seen in Oxfordshire before. A tremendous exhibition of life-sized and mini-oxen will be herded into position throughout Oxfordshire ready for you to discover. Each Oxen is unique, having been designed, and hand painted by artists and children alike.

When does it start and how long is it on for?

The Oxen will be moooved into their positions throughout Oxfordshire for the start of the event on 6^th July. The Oxen will continue grazing on their pastures until 29^th August meaning you have eight weeks to enjoy discovering what this wonderful art trail has to offer for free.

At the end of OxTrail there will be a special auction evening held to raise funds for Sobell House Hospice.

What are Oxen? Why Oxen? Who came with the idea?

Oxen are male cows that were traditionally trained and used as draft animals. This means they were used to pull heavy carts and other items. The Ox is part of the Oxford Coat of arms and represents hard work and determination with its unwavering perseverance making it an emblem of resilience and tenacity. All of these traits made it an ideal animal of choice for Wild In Art and Sobell House Hospice who are the brains behind OxTrail.

Who are Sobell House?

Sobell House are a hospice that have been providing specialist palliative care in Oxfordshire since 1976. They provide care for around 3,000 patients and their families every year. Their mission is to enrich the lives of their patients and those who love and care for them.
